Enjoying the last of summer!

Last Friday was a rare occurrence for us - we both had the same day off work! Over Christmas we accept that we don't see each other an awful lot - my workload increases a lot over Christma and L's job means she can be scheduled to work any day or night- unfortunately including Christmas Day!
So we made the most of this rare occurrence, and went into the city centre, where luckily, the sun was shining!
Our first stop was Handmade Burger Co in the Bullring.
We had never been here before, and had a money off voucher, so decided to give it a try, especially as they have a lot of options for us veggies. In fact, we seemed to order more than other couples did - oops!
The portions are big - the burgers were impossible to eat without using cutlery! The onion rings and chips were yummy, but I felt the halloumi skewers should've had more halloumi! Although tasty, the food was nothing special, and we both agreed we weren't sure if we would return.

We then wandered up to the balconies overlooking the church, where people sit and watch the world go by, nice cold Starbucks in hand of course! (And some bizarre marshmallow thing L insisted I buy her!)

Birmingham currently has random straw sculptures dotted around - our faves were this Olympian in action, and the Birmingham themed one with a canal barge, Selfridges building, and of course the Birmingham Bull!

Then we wandered up to Victoria Square, home to the council buildings, the huge fountain (complete with statue nicknamed 'The Floozy In The Jacuzzi'!), and currently, a big screen showing the Paralympics, which we decided to sit and watch in the sun for a while.

Birmingham also held ArtsFest this weekend - the UK's biggest free arts festival, comprising of around 600 musicians, dancers, comedians, actors and more! We were gutted that we missed it because of work - especially the firework display following an outdoor performance by Birmingham Royal Ballet.
Theres always next year, and we are grateful to live in a city that has lots going on, especially so many free events!

In two weeks time we have our two weeks annual leave which we are really excited for, and after that we have about 4 weekends together for the rest of this year!
