May - chaos and embarassing hashtags

Every month we write a post in the form of a personal journal. It's purpose is entirely to provide a memory book of how life was treating us at that moment in time, as we often look back through them. We are under no illusion that they provide any entertainment for our readers, so we apologise in advance!

But this month, a journal post seemed like a necessary exercise, rather than a way to look back and think 'ah that was a fun day, we should do that more' or 'wow, we got through that, go us'.
It seems necessary, as this month has been chaos; not in the way that bad things are happening, quite the opposite in fact. But in the way that life has become an unfamiliar, unorganised chaotic whirlwind, leaving us feeling like we are constantly playing catchup, forgetting something, or trying to make a hundred and one plans come together at once.
Firstly can I say I apologise in advance for the use of the word 'blessed'. It puts me in mind of either religion, or cringey hashtags. #LovingLife anyone!? But I saw this quote online that perfectly summed up how I feel:

"Concentrate not on the reasons you are stressed, but on the reasons you are blessed"

There are a few reasons why we feel stressed - Lauren has been working in her new job for a while, and whilst its amazing, its a completely different way of working than she was used to, seeing her working in different places, choosing when she works, and even being paid in a different way.
Because we have different amounts of money coming in at different times, we have completely lost track of it all. We finally sat down and can't believe we've spent so much money on..well we aren't really sure! We have had a couple of large plans we have been saving for which has felt quite daunting.
We are very close to beginning our fertility treatment - its emotionally, physically, and financially rather scary - in the same way as our wedding did, something you want so much also places so much importance and anticipation on itself.

But this is why I wanted to write this post - often when people get stressed, we forget about all the times we have felt peaceful or just completely happy, instead focusing on things we need to 'sort out'.
So here are some lovely things we did in May, to show ourselves - look, it wasn't all stressful, and there were lots of reasons we were blessed (cringe).

Meeting in our lunch break at a street food fair - arancini for Lauren and chilli tofu steamed bun for me!
Exploring Nottingham - Alley Cafe vegan cafe is awesome!
Date nights - Wagamama, and a breakfast date!
Our favourite way to spend a Saturday - walking Willow in the park then stopping at the farmers market
Holiday shopping - great way to forget about rainy weather, although we were less than impressed with
the standards and service in Bham Victoria's Secret - you fail again, England!

And more holiday shopping!
Cooking vegan picnic food from scratch for Lauren's best friend's 30th
Another visit from our neighbours dog - this time we got to look after him for two whole weeks!
What a cutie
Looking back at that picture heavy (apologies) list, we did so many lovely things, and I'm glad we have our blog to point that out to us! We also spent a lot of time with our families, including our usual Sunday carvery lunch with my mom, my dad popping round to see Willow us, a big family meal with Laurens parent's, brother, cousin, niece, and grandparents, a picnic and party for her best friends 30th, and last but not least meeting up with fellow blogger Susie and her fiancee. After giving them a couple of tips for their trip to Birmingham we were happy they invited us for coffee as we have long felt they would be people we got on with, and we were right! We are looking forward to making dinner plans with them soon.

This month, our big aim is to enjoy life, rather than stressing about it, and become a LOT more organised.
And breathe….

  2. I think that you girls have got it right with the blog. It'll be amazing in years to come to look back on memories you've had and places you've been that you might of forgotten about. It's always good to try and focus on the good times instead of the bad.

You have an awesome partnership & no matter what happens with you two you'll work through it. Lovely to see.
